Human Language Technologies (HLT) are among the key information society technologies. They improve the human-computer interface, contribute to extracting useful information from an abundance of texts, support translation from one language to another, or summarize information according to a users needs. In order to create contexts for joint efforts to face major challenges, roadmaps for HLT will help funding agencies, industry, and the HLT community establishing common goals and priorities, and defining intermediate milestones.

This web site is built as part of the ELSNET4 project funded by the EU. It presents several technology roadmaps, which will be continuously updated and unified. You can leave your comments and suggestions in the respective discussion forums.

The HLT Roadmap System currently offers different roadmaps to accomodate versioning and to support different aims (integration is yet to take place). Please select which one you would like to access and choose the task or the roadmap button on the left.

DeepThought Roadmap

ELSNET/Enabler Resources Roadmap

LREC 2004 - Evaluation and Resources Roadmap (Draft)

This is Version 3.0 of the Human Language Technologies (HLT) roadmap system. It is built using Macromedia Flash. To view the roadmaps, both your computer and browser have to support Flash and you might have to install the Flash plugin which should be available from your browser's plugin page.

Version 1.0 of the HTL roadmap system, which was based on Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), is not supported anymore.

The HLT roadmap system has been successfully tested with the following web browsers: Mozilla, Netscape Communicator 6 and 7, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, 5.5 and 6 and Apple Safari 1.0. All other browsers might not work correctly with the HLT roadmap system; preferrably, one of the tested browsers listed above should be used.
